Cooling Centers Available During First Heat Wave in Atlanta

Here are some places you can go as summer picks up and Atlanta enters a heat wave.

ATLANTA — Temperatures are rising fast in the Atlanta metro area, leading to the need to find a place to cool off and protect yourself from the grueling sun.

11Alive has compiled a list of available cooling centers in and around Atlanta as temperatures rise and we enter a heat wave.

Ministries MUST

Must Ministries’ Hope House Cooling Center will be open in Cobb County from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. June 13-16. Lunch and dinner will be available. The adress is:

DeKalb Facilities

In the event of heat advisories or warnings, all DeKalb County libraries and recreation centers will be available as cooling centers during each location’s normal business hours. A heat advisory occurs when temperatures “feel” at or above 103 degrees or when actual temperatures reach 105 degrees or higher.

Gwinnett County

Gwinnett County Government does not offer any cooling centers, but its public facilities offer air conditioning and hydration options. Some offer swimming pools and paddling pools. Other county offerings include year-round aquatic centers, seasonal pools and interactive fountains.

You can even cool off at The Battery during Braves games during this extremely hot weather spell.

Battery

The Braves are also preparing to face the heat. Fans may bring one sealed plastic water bottle, one bag of food and one bottle of non-aerosol sunscreen per game ticket, and are encouraged to wear hats. Battery-operated portable fans and misters are permitted, as are umbrellas, provided they do not block other fans’ view of the game, per Truist Park guidelines.

Cooling stations inside the park are located in the 1st and 3rd base elevator lobbies on the lower level.
