Two arrested for raping underage girl

BALURGHAT: A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped on the pretext of playing a game of Ludo. The incident took place in South Dinajpur district on Wednesday evening.

The victim’s parents reported the incident to the police.

Immediately after the report was filed, the police took action and arrested the two.

The arrested persons were produced before the special POCSO court in Balurghat on Thursday afternoon. The police sought five days’ remand for further investigation.

The two arrested are Papai Mahanta (21) and Vishwamitra Murmu (18). The victim is about 13 years old.

The police have recorded the statement of the victim under Section 164 of the Criminal Code. The police are investigating the entire incident.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters Balurghat) Vikram Prasad said, “The police from Hili police station have arrested two persons for raping a minor girl of 13 years. The accused have been booked under the POCSO Act.”
