YONKERS, NY (PIX11) — The teenage driver who killed Sergeant Frank Gualdino, a veteran motorcycle cop with the Yonkers Police Department, faced charges of involuntary manslaughter, but was sentenced Thursday to two years probation and 480 hours of community service.

The victim’s family, in a very public statement, called on the New York State Legislature to revise its laws raising the age.

About 150 current and former officers from the 600-strong department stood behind Lisa Gualdino, the widow of their deceased colleague, as she read a statement.

“If this incident had happened several years earlier, there would have been laws in place that would have held this person, as an adult, responsible for the deaths of my husband and the father of my children,” Lisa Gualdino said.

“However, in New York State, legislation has raised the age of consent to 18 in recent years.”

She urged state lawmakers to make exceptions in cases like the one her family is facing.

On December 1, 2022, Sergeant Gualdino was killed when he was struck by a sports car traveling at high speed. The driver was 16 years old at the time.

He is now 17. He was sentenced to two years probation, with restrictions including curfew and being prohibited from owning a motor vehicle.
