Man accused in car crash that killed 8-year-old pleads not guilty

HAMBURG, NY (WIVB) — The man accused in a fatal car crash that killed an 8-year-old last week has pleaded not guilty.

Markus Genovese, 52, faces numerous charges in connection with the June 8 incident, including assault, hit-and-run after a fatal car crash, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and first- and second-degree manslaughter.

The Angola man was accused of striking a vehicle from behind on Route 5 after the driver stopped to turn left onto North Creek Road.

Thomas Ross, who lives in Blasdell, was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle. He did not survive.

In court on Thursday morning, many of Ross’ family members were seen wearing orange, the eight-year-old’s reported favorite color.

Following his court date, Genovese was transported back to ECMC where he is being held due to his injuries. His felony hearing has been suspended and he will appear before a grand jury in approximately 45 days.
