Buffalo’s outdoor pools will open July 1 and splash pad hours will be extended

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Five of Buffalo’s outdoor pools will open for the summer on July 1.

  • Centennial Outdoor Pool
  • Houghton Outdoor Pool
  • JFK Outdoor Pool
  • Kensington Outdoor Pool
  • Outdoor pool by the river

This comes after Buffalo, like other U.S. cities, faced a shortage of lifeguards in recent years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are very happy that more swimming pools are opening, thanks to the young people of the city who have trained to
be the city’s lifesavers this season,” said Mayor Byron Brown.

The city noted that two indoor pools – Cazenovia-Connors, Kait, Harrity Memorial Pool and Lovejoy Pool, are open weekdays year-round.

Meanwhile, the city of Buffalo announced that its 10 water features will have extended operating hours once the school year ends. On June 25, they will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Labor Day.
