Elle King delivers her first performance since the drunken Grand Ole Opry incident at the Arizona Music Festival

The country star performed an early evening set at the Extra Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona on Friday

Elle King is back on stage for the first time following her controversial and admittedly drunken performance during a Dolly Parton tribute hosted by the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville in January.

On Friday, the 34-year-old country star performed at the Extra Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona earlier in the evening.

For the appearance, King wore a red long-sleeved top, which she paired with a matching snakeskin skirt.

She accessorized her look with black sunglasses and minimalist jewelry, including a studded belt.

On Saturday, the “Ex’s & Oh’s” singer will be back on stage in San Diego supporting Chris Stapleton’s All American Road Show tour. She will also soon be playing a series of three shows across the UK before further performances in North America later this spring.

King’s festival set comes nearly a month and a half after her controversial performance at an event honoring Parton’s 78th birthday in late January. During the concert, the singer-songwriter was filmed in several fan-shot videos telling the audience that she was “damned” and had forgotten the lyrics.

“I don’t know the lyrics to these things in this damn town,” she said, stumbling over the lyrics to “Marry Me.” “Don’t tell Dolly because it’s her birthday.”

King later added after the song, “Everyone’s like, holy shit, we bought tickets to this shit. I’m not even going to lie,” she said as she put her hands in her pockets. “Holy shit. I won’t even lie. Did you all buy tickets for this shit?”

Following the show, which also featured sets from Ashley Monroe, Tigirlily Gold, Dailey & Vincent and Terri Clark, fans took to social media to request a refund. The Nashville venue replied to the posts of some concert goers on X (formerly Twitter) with an apology.

Shortly after the incident, the Grammy-nominated singer postponed five of her upcoming concerts. At the time, she shared on her Instagram Story that her winter performances in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan had been postponed until the end of March, while her concert in Dallas, Texas had been postponed until September.

“Your tickets remain valid for the new dates. If you are unable to make the new date, a refund is available with your purchase,” King wrote. “See you there!”

In February, Parton revealed in an interview with Extra that she was not hostile towards King over the incident. “Elle is truly a great artist,” the country music legend said. “She’s a great girl and has been through some tough things lately.”

The “Jolene” singer added, “She’d just had a little too much to drink, so let’s just forgive and forget and move on because she was worse off than anyone ever could be.”

The Come and get your wife The artist has previously spoken about her performances under the influence of alcohol. In 2022 San Diego Tribune In the interview, she shared that she no longer wants to be as drunk on stage as she has been in the past.

“It’s easier for me to say, ‘Yeah, I want to drink and party and (then) go on stage,'” the country star said. “I get nervous before I go on stage, so I have a few drinks (first). Drinking makes me feel less nervous when I hit the notes while singing. If I don’t do them, it doesn’t hurt as much.”

King added that being a mother was much more important to her than having a good time. The singer shares two-year-old son Lucky Levi with Daniel Tooker.
