Dumka (Jharkhand), June 13 (PTI) – A minor girl from West Bengal was allegedly raped by five people in Jharkhand’s Dumka district where she had come for a marriage ceremony, police said on Thursday.

The victim filed a complaint at the Shikaripara police station, which is about 310 kilometers from Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi.

“The incident took place on the intervening night of June 11-12. The process of registering the FIR is currently being completed. A few people have been arrested in connection with the case,” Dumka Superintendent of Police (SP) Pitamber Singh Kherwar told PTI.

Kherwar said the girl had stated in her complaint that she was raped by five people.

“The girl is a minor, but her actual age is yet to be ascertained and is currently being verified,” said the SP.

The victim told the police that she had come to Jharkhand from West Bengal to attend a wedding ceremony in a village under the jurisdiction of Shikaripara police station.

“She was wandering around on the night of June 11 when she became the victim of a gang rape,” the SP quoted her complaint as saying.

Shikaripara police station superintendent Hari Prasad Shah said the victim was taken to a hospital for medical examination.
