2 people arrested, ghost guns and 3D printer parts seized in Darby, police say – NBC10 Philadelphia

A call about two men brandishing weapons near the Darby post office in Delaware County led police to an arrest Friday in an operation to create illegal, untraceable ghost guns, officials said.

According to Darby police, officers discovered the operation when they were called to the area of the Darby Post Office in the 800 block of Main Street around 2:18 p.m. Friday after a witness reported seeing two men brandishing firearms in the area.

Police released details of the arrest and photos on social media.

Officials said that shortly after that call, officers saw a person matching the description of those described by the witness enter a home in the 100 block of Summit Street.

Police surrounded the house and nearby Penn Wood Middle School was cordoned off for some time because the house was directly across the street from the school, police officials said.

After some time, the residents of the house – 21-year-old Shane Lannon and 20-year-old Miguel Anaglate – left the property and were arrested.

During the subsequent search of the house, investigators said they found the clothing that a witness had described as being worn by one of the men, as well as two loaded and functional polymer firearms.

Often referred to as “ghost guns,” these plastic firearms can be made and assembled at home from polymer using a 3D printer without ever being given a serial number or legally registered.

Officers said they also found gun parts in the house, including switches that allow a firearm to operate fully automatically, a travel bag with a polymer slide, molds for polymer frames, a 3D printer – which are commonly used to make these “ghost guns” and polymer gun parts – as well as tools for assembling these firearms and other parts for the 3D printer.

Charges were brought against both men.

In a statement about the arrests, Chief Joseph Gabe Jr. of the Darby Borough Police Department praised the officers involved in this arrest, saying they may have helped end an operation that was putting illegal weapons on the streets.

“Removing these weapons from our streets, their owners and the equipment used to make these weapons is a huge victory for our community and neighboring communities. We are committed to keeping our citizens safe,” he said.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Police said anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Darby Borough Police by phone at 610-586-1100 or email at [email protected].
