Ithaca man killed in car crash – The Morning Sun

Gratiot County Sheriff’s Office.

A 33-year-old Ithaca man was killed in a car accident in Elba Township, Gratiot County, early Wednesday morning.

According to Sheriff Mike Morris, Matthew Hoffer was driving his pickup truck north on Barry Road around 6:11 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve onto Greenland Road.

His vehicle left the road and overturned. Hoffer, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Alcohol and speed appear to be a factor in the crash,” Morris said in a news release.

Hoffer wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by the Ashley Fire Department and the Michigan State Police.
