Houston student’s college aid in limbo due to FAFSA glitch

HOUSTON – Anyone going to college is encouraged to take FAFSA, a free application for federal student aid.

Uma Cloud says she spent two months dealing with an IT glitch on the website with no end in sight.

Her son, Chacen, just graduated from the National Honor Society and is 44th in his class of about 600 students.

He was accepted into Houston Christian University.

“I think it’s an exceptional combination,” she said. “Because at the center of their mission is Jesus Christ, who is close to their heart.”

Chacen isn’t the only Uma child with college aspirations.

“For the next three years, it will be consecutive,” Uma said. “We have 2024, 2025, 2026. College is expensive.”

Uma says she needs FAFSA, a free application for federal student aid, to fund her son’s college expenses. She says she’s tried dozens of times to add HCU to Chacen’s app.

“I won’t have to go to the signature page to be able to submit it,” Uma said. “It goes from the college page to the student financial page. It’s back and forth. We can’t get out of this problem.”

UMA says she even went to HCU to ask for help.

“They even brought their own computer for me to try at the school to add their FAFSA application. We’re stuck,” Uma said. “They were baffled. They didn’t know what was going on. No one knows customer service. They don’t know what’s going on. The financial aid office cat doesn’t know what to do. No one knows how to help us to get out of this problem.

We asked to hear from others having issues with FAFSA and received responses from several people in no time.

We contacted the FAFSA, but did not receive a response.
