UB student dies in rear-end collision caused by drunk driver

BUFFALO, NY — A University at Buffalo engineering student has died after being struck from behind by a drunk driver in Parma earlier this month.

According to the Monroe County District Attorney, 33-year-old Alexander Hackett is charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 18-year-old Maria Eichas.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to support her family.

“This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Raymond Benitez, Chief of the Traffic Crimes Bureau,” the prosecutor’s office said in a June 7 newsletter.
