Man skateboarding fatally struck by vehicle on Niagara Street

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man who was skateboarding died after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning on Niagara Street, Buffalo police officials said.

Police said a white Dodge Durango was traveling south on Niagara Street near Fargo Avenue around 12:45 a.m. when it struck the “possible skateboarder.” The 21-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.


The Durango continued to drive on Niagara Street before hitting a parked vehicle, according to police. The driver then allegedly fled on foot.

Authorities said they interviewed one person in connection with the incident and the Durango is currently in custody.

Part of Niagara Street was closed to traffic Wednesday morning for several hours due to the incident.
