Buffalo Music Hall of Fame Gifts ‘The Muppet Movie’ Platinum Album ‘Rainbow Connection’

The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame will gather at the BMHOF headquarters, located at 340 Amherst St., Buffalo, at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, to receive an official Platinum album, “Rainbow Connection,” from “The Muppet Movie.”

Friends and family members of BMHOF inductee Ernie Corallo, who was inducted into BMHOF in the Class of 1989, will present at BMHOF his Platinum album, which will remain in the archives of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame Museum.

Two Buffalo Music Hall of Fame inductees, Corallo (guitars) and Gary Mallaber (class of 1997, drums) were credited for their work on the 1979 film, “The Muppet Movie: Original Soundtrack Recording.” “The Muppet Movie,” featuring the song “Rainbow Connection,” and music were written by songwriters Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher. Originally released on LP by Atlantic Records in North America and by CBS internationally, the album reached number 32 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The soundtrack won a Grammy Award, a Golden Globe, two Academy Awards and reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation established for the cultural enhancement and enrichment of Buffalo and Western New York through musicians and the musical history of the region. The organization was established in 1983.

BMHOF’s mission is to honor and protect WNY’s diverse cultural musical heritage through preservation, education, scholarship and performance. In doing so, BMHOF has inducted more than 300 members, including outstanding musicians, performers, innovators and non-performers who have made special contributions to WNY music.
