Worker killed in lawnmower accident in Louisiana

Plaquemines Parish official killed in lawnmower accident, death under investigation

CARIBBEAN AND CENTRAL AMERICA. SO A DIFFERENT SYSTEM. BUT GOOD QUESTION. YES, WE ARE FOLLOWING THE TROPICS VERY CLOSELY BECAUSE WE’RE STARTING TO SEE A LITTLE MORE ACTIVITY OUT THERE. THE GOOD NEWS IS IT’S UNORGANIZED ACTIVITY. THAT’S WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE. EVEN IF THE WATER IS VERY, VERY WARM. YOU’RE LIVELY LOOKING AT ONE OF OUR CAMERAS. THIS IS THE ONE IN CHALMETTE LOOKING FORWARD. NEW ORLEANS, ONE OF MY FAVORITE CAMERAS WHERE THE SKY IS PARTLY CLOUDY BUT THERE’S SOME RAIN. AND AGAIN, LIKE YESTERDAY, IT’S FOCUSED RIGHT ON THE COAST. WE HAVE A FRONTAL SYSTEM. IT WAS A COLD FRONT. NOW IT’S KIND OF A STATIONARY FRONT. THAT’S WHAT THE RAIN IS GOING TO FOCUS ON THIS AFTERNOON. AND YOU SEE THAT RIGHT THERE, JUST SOUTH OF GOLDEN MEADOW. THAT’S WHAT THE NATIONAL WEADER SERVICE SAID. ABOUT 20, 25 MINUTES AGO, IT’S POSSIBLE THAT THERE WAS A WATERSPOUT NEAR LEEVILLE. OTHER THAN THAT, YOU SEE SOME RAIN IN PLAQUEMINES PARISH, BUT THEY’RE VERY, VERY SIMPLIFIED IN THE EYE. AND OUR CHANCE OF RAIN IS ONLY 20% THIS AFTERNOON. OK. OUR TEMPERATURES ARE HOT, BUT NOT AS HOT AS THEY’RE GONNA BE. 86 IN BOGALUSA, 89. OUR CURRENT TEMPERATURE IN BELLE CHASE OFFICIALLY RIGHT NOW AT LOUIS ARMSTRONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. THE DEW POINT IS 73. BUT ON THE NORTH SHORE, AS I SHOWED YOU AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS BROADCAST, THE DEW POINTS ARE IN THE MID TO UPPER 60S. SO THE ATMOSPHERE HERE IS RELATIVELY DRY, ESPECIALLY ON THE NORTH SHORE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. HERE’S THIS FRONT THAT’S GETTING A LITTLE WASHED OUT. BUT IF WE SEE ANY RAIN, IT WILL BE CONCENTRATE NEAR THAT FRONT THIS AFTERNOON. HIGH PRESSURE AT THE SURFACE, DRY AIR, AND HIGH PRESSURE AT ALPINE. THAT HIGH PRESSURE AREA IS REALLY GOING TO RULE OUR WEATHER THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK. AND THAT MEANS WE’RE GOING TO HAVE HOT. REMEMBER LAST SUMMER, WHEN IT WAS VERY HOT, THE HIGH PRESSURE AREA WAS ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE DISTURBANCE WE SHOWED YOU ABOUT, MOVING TOWARDS THE CAROLINAS. WE’RE GOING TO WATCH A BROAD AREA OF TROPICAL LOW PRESSURE. IF THEY ARE LIKE THAT, MOVING INTO THE SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO. THE HURRICANE CENTER WILL BE MONITORING DEVELOPMENT. THEY SAY THERE’S A 20 PERCENT CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT OVER THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS. The waters in the Gulf are warm, but the upper level winds are not particularly favorable. Some of that moisture will affect our weather. How much? Well, I’ll show you in a minute. Today there’s only 20% rain. And mainly along the front right on the coast we’ll see rain. We’ll see the bulk of the rain tomorrow morning. Again above 15 degrees on the north coast. So still relatively comfortable in the afternoon, even if there are showers, and those will be isolated and concentrated right along the coast just like today. But see what happens Friday. We’ll start with temperatures in the 20s, so a little warmer in the morning, then 35 degrees Friday afternoon, and Saturday could get even warmer. Let’s go through Friday and Saturday, which will stay mostly dry for us. But here’s your Sunday. Here’s the moisture coming up off the Gulf of Mexico. How much rain? So, we’re looking at a 60 percent chance of rain Sunday. A 60 percent chance of rain Monday as well. But again, it looks like a lot of that moisture could move a little farther west. MEXICO AND TEXAS COULD EXPERIENCE THE HEAVIEST RAIN AT THE TIME. COMPUTER MODELS DON’T QUITE ACCORD. CHANCES OF RAIN ARE INCREASING. HOW MUCH WILL WE SEE? NOT YET DETERMINED. PARTLY CLOUDY, OCCASIONS OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS. OFFICIALLY 20% CHANCE OF RAIN. AS I SHOWED YOU, I FOCUSED MOSTLY ON THE COASTAL AREAS. MOSTLY CLEAR, WARM AND HUMBLE, BUT STILL PLEASANT ON THE NORTH COAST WITH THOSE DEW POINTS AROUND 15-16MM. SPOKEN RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS TOMORROW. ONLY 10% CHANCE OF RAIN AND IT WILL OCCUR ONLY SOUTH OF I-10. THE NORTH COAST WILL BE DRY. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY ARE THE TWO HOTTEST DAYS. 97 WILL BE THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE ON FRIDAY, 96 ON SATURDAY THE HEAT INDEX COULD BE OVER 105. AND SO FOR YOU BOTH DAYS ARE WEATHER INFLUENCED DAYS. AND THEN OUR CHANCE OF RAIN INCREASES BY 60%.
