61-year-old man sentenced to 56 years in prison for sexual abuse of minors

The Fast Track Special Court (POCSO) here sentenced a 61-year-old man to a total of 56 years in prison for sexually abusing an 11-year-old boy.

The accused, Abdul Jabbar, Darusalam Veedu, Melthonnakal Village, was also fined Rs 75,000, which will be paid to the young survivor. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional jail term of one year and seven months, said the order issued by Special Judge Rekha R.

The accused abused the child at his house in Pothencode panchayat where he was studying Quran. The boy’s family was very close to Abdul Jabbar’s family. He had also threatened to kill and drown the boy if he told anyone about the incident. The victim told his mother about the incident when his family decided to send his younger brother to the accused’s house for Quran classes too. The case was investigated by Pothencode police.
