23-year-old man charged with marrying and raping minor girl – Republic World

Thane: Police in Navi Mumbai have filed a complaint against a 23-year-old man for marrying a 15-year-old girl, repeatedly raping her and impregnating her, an official said on Wednesday.

Acting on a complaint from the victim, who hails from the same village in Panvel taluka as the accused, the police on Tuesday filed an FIR against the man under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO Act), the Panvel taluka police station officer said.

The crime occurred within the last year and a half, he said.

The police officer quoted the complaint as saying that the accused married the victim despite knowing that she was a minor and repeatedly raped and impregnated her. The survivor gave birth to a baby girl on Tuesday.

Regarding the offence of child marriage, the official said the matter had already been referred to the Child Protection Committee so that necessary steps could be taken.
