Car crashes into Springfield police patrol car

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) — A Springfield Police patrol car was involved in an accident near Carew Street late Wednesday morning.

The scene has calmed down and traffic is flowing normally, but by late morning that was not the case. Surveillance video of the crash obtained by Western Mass News shows the car rolling over.

We saw several tow trucks on site removing the damaged cars.

It is unclear what circumstances led to the crash

As we continue to piece together what happened, we have heard from an eyewitness what he saw.

“There was roadwork going on, the construction workers… Even when I spoke to them, they said they just came in for lunch and were lucky they weren’t on the road, and they said it saved their lives,” the witness explained.

We have reached out to Springfield Police for more information about the incident but have not yet received a response.
