Murder at Choctaw Casino is being investigated by OSBI

DURANT, Okla. (KFDX/KJTL) – Officials with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations are investigating an altercation Sunday evening that resulted in the death of a 51-year-old man.

OSBI officials said in a Facebook post on Monday, June 10, 2024, that they were asked by the Choctaw Nation’s Lighthorse Police and the Bryan County District Attorney’s Office for assistance in a June 9 homicide.

According to OSBI officials, officers responded to an altercation at the Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, Oklahoma around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9.

OSBI officials said when they arrived at the scene, they discovered 51-year-old Phillip Wingfield, who had sustained serious injuries. They said medical personnel performed life-saving measures, but unfortunately Wingfield passed away.

Authorities said that based on information and evidence collected by OSBI special agents, 20-year-old Antonio Anthony Latham of Gunter was booked into the Bryan County Jail on June 9, 2024, and charged with first-degree murder.

According to OSBI officials, the victim was transported to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death. They said the investigation into Wingfield’s death is ongoing.
