Woman arrested for domestic violence in Decatur

DECATUR, Alabama (WHNT) – An early morning domestic disturbance call between a man and his girlfriend resulted in an arrest by the Decatur Police Department (DPD).

DPD detectives responded to Austin Street SW early Wednesday morning after receiving a call about a domestic dispute in the area.

The department said when officers arrived, they found a male victim with a wound to his right hand.

They concluded that there had been an altercation between the victim and his girlfriend. Officers found Janea Matthews at the scene and arrested her.

Officers said that during the argument, Matthews pulled out a knife and cut the victim’s hand.

The victim was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

Matthews was charged with second-degree domestic violence. She was booked into the Morgan County Jail at about 4:43 a.m. and is being held on $5,000 bail.
