2 people arrested in connection with shooting at apartment complex in Madison, Tennessee

MADISON, Tenn. (WKRN) – Weeks after a man was shot in the chest in Madison, authorities announced two suspects were taken into custody for their connection to the incident.

According to court documents, officers were called to the 300 block of Rio Vista Drive shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, to respond to reports of a man who had been shot in the chest.

When officers arrived at the apartment complex, they said they rendered aid to the victim until he was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

Witnesses reportedly told officers that the incident stemmed from an argument between the victim and his daughter’s boyfriend. The boyfriend was also accompanied by a female friend, police said.

During the argument, the friend’s mother pulled out a gun and shot the victim, according to officials.

The group then fled the scene in an unknown direction in a vehicle. Officials said the victim later identified the suspects.

According to a police report, 43-year-old Michelle Thornton was identified as the “suspect who possessed a firearm, pointed it at the victim and fled the scene after the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.”

According to court documents, 18-year-old Deandrea Thornton was also identified by the victim as a suspect.

Michelle and Deandrea Thornton were booked into Metro Jail on Tuesday, June 11, on charges of attempted murder and weapons possession.

The two remain in custody on $510,000 bail each.
