Police are providing an update on the shooting in Portsmouth that left a 10-year-old boy dead

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The lead investigator in the case shares information in a news conference around 11 a.m. Wednesday on Farragut Street, the same street where the murder occurred.

One person is facing charges while another is being sought in connection with the shooting death of a 10-year-old on Friday evening, the Portsmouth Police Department (PPD) said Saturday.

According to PPD, Keontre Thornhill was at his home when an argument between teenage girls ended with a stray bullet flying through his home and striking him.

Shawnday Nakisha Ross, 31, was arrested Saturday and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. However, police said she was not the one who fired the fatal shot.

Investigators are now asking the public for help in finding Cleon Deonte Banks, 26, in connection with the murder. Banks is considered “armed and dangerous.”
