Second suspect arrested after fatal Denton pickup truck shooting

A second man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Denton in May.

Denton police announced Tuesday that 34-year-old Zachary Lowe of North Richland Hills in Saginaw was arrested with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Following the arrest of 24-year-old Riley Clowers, Lowe is the second man charged with murder in the fatal May 25 shooting in Denton that left 25-year-old River Wayne Williams dead.

According to police, Williams, Clowers and Lowe approached a truck parked in the 3200 block of West Windsor Drive and forced the driver of the truck to the ground at gunpoint. Williams then got into the truck, and the driver got back into the vehicle and attempted to drive away with Williams in the truck.

According to police, Williams and the driver were shot during a struggle over the gun. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the two men are facing murder charges because they “both displayed weapons while committing a serious assault and Williams died while committing that assault.”

Clowers was arrested shortly after the shooting and was being held in the Denton County Jail on $100,000 bail as of Tuesday evening. Police said Lowe was taken to the Denton City Jail and had not been given a bail amount as of Tuesday evening.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Logan Miller at 940-349-8156 or report a tip anonymously through Denton County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-388-TIPS (8477) or www.dentoncountycrimestoppers.com.
