TONIGHT. PETER. YES, JOHN. WE’RE HERE ON FRANKLIN STREET, RIGHT NEXT TO THE LIBRARY. AND THAT’S WHERE THIS ALL STARTED, POLICE SAY. WE KNOW THE VICTIM HERE IS AN ADULT WOMAN. SHE TOLD POLICE THAT THIS MORNING, AROUND 12:30, SHE TALKED TO THREE PEOPLE. HERE. THEN SHE SAID SHE COULDN’T REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED NEXT, BUT WAK UP IN A PARKING LOT IN CENTRAL SQUARE AFTER BEING SEXUALLY ASSAULTED. SHE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE SHE IS BEING TREATED. AS FOR THE WOMEN THAT LIVE IN THIS AREA, THEY ARE TERRIFIED IT COULD BE A MANAGER ON THE RUN. I DON’T LIKE WHAT HAPPENED. AND I HOPE THE POLICE FIND THE PERPETRATOR, BECAUSE THE FACT THAT THEY HAVEN’T FOUND HIM MEANS HE’S STILL OUT HERE. SOMETIMES I FEEL, UM, VERY SAFE HERE. BUT MOST OF THE TIME, YOU KNOW, I’M REALLY CAREFUL NOT TO BE OUT AT NIGHT. NOW THE POLICE HAVE BEEN OUT HERE ALL EVENING STAFFING THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THEY SAY THE VICTIM IS HOMELESS. AND NEIGHBORS TELL US THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF HOMELESS PEOPLE SLEEPING AROUND THE LIBRARY AND THERE IS A LOT OF DRUG ACTIVITY THERE AS WELL. POLICE ARE URGING ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING TO CALL 911. ALSO IF YOU FEEL THREATENED OR ENCOUNTER ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY. NOW OF COURSE THERE ARE DETAILS. THEY ARE VERY LIMITED TONIGHT BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF THIS CRIME HERE. BUT AGAIN, IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED, YOU ARE ASKED TO CALL CAMBRIDGE POLICE LIVE AT CENTRAL SQUARE IN CAMBRIDGE.
