A Watsonville man was arrested Monday for alleged sex crimes against a child, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Eric Martinez-Villanueva, 21, was arrested without incident at his home in the 10 block of Lassen Way, Monterey County Sheriff’s Commander Andres Rosas said in a news release.

He was accused of lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14, illicit sexual intercourse with a minor and “physical injuries with a traumatic effect on the victim,” Rosas said.

Referring to the victim’s age, he did not want to provide any further information.

Martinez-Villanueva was booked into the Monterey County Jail. According to jail records, he was not listed as a custody officer as of Tuesday evening.

According to Rosas, the sheriff’s office learned of a sexual assault involving a victim who was under the age of 14. Detectives launched an investigation that led to the identity of the suspect.

Investigators believe there are more victims and are working hard to contact them, Rosas said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Richard Geng at 253.6029 or Det. Sgt. Nicholas Kennedy at 755.3773.
