Greely woman dies after two-vehicle crash near Madison | News

MADISON – A two-vehicle crash west of Madison resulted in the death of a Greely resident yesterday afternoon.

According to Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk, a silver Chrysler Town & Country minivan was traveling west on Highway 32 around noon when it was struck by a Chevy Tahoe SUV that was traveling south on Highway 121 and failed to stop at a stop sign.

The collision caused the minivan to strike the SUV, which then drove into the southbound ditch and overturned before coming to a stop on its wheels about 60 meters south of the intersection.

The driver of the SUV, 66-year-old Peggy Ondracek, was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Faith Regional in Norfolk under ongoing life-saving measures, but was later pronounced dead.

A four-year-old child in the SUV also sustained injuries and was flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, while the driver of the minivan, 85-year-old Wilma Knapp, was treated at the scene and then taken to Faith Regional Hospital.

Both Knapp and the child were properly secured in their vehicles, while Ondracek was not wearing her seatbelt.

The accident is still under investigation.
