  • Lifetime lottery player from Prince George’s County wins $50,000

MARYLAND — A dedicated Maryland Lottery enthusiast from Prince George’s County known only as “Fox” recently won $50,000 in the June 6 Pick 5 drawing, adding another to her lottery success story.

“Fox,” a long-time player, has won small prizes over the years. She attributes her luck to her late mother and past wins, including a recent $10,000 on a Pick 4 game. Her most recent win came while checking the numbers at a local restaurant, which resulted in an unexpected but happy surprise.

Overwhelmed by her emotions, Fox described her win as a huge relief that eased her financial burden. She plans to honor her mother’s memory – a key reason for entering the lottery – by using her mother’s birth date as a lucky charm. This strategy has repeatedly brought her timely wins.

With her new win, “Fox” wants to pay off her debts and save the rest. Despite the big win, she has no plans to play the lottery less, but rather enjoys the excitement it brings to her everyday life. She said confidently: “My next win is waiting for me. I will win again and I will come back.”

  • Seaside Heights man pleads guilty to manslaughter in connection with local death

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ — Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer has announced that Anthony Collins, 41, of Seaside Heights, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The guilty plea was entered before the Honorable Guy P. Ryan, PJCr.P., in connection with the death of Robert May, 70, also of Seaside Heights. The incident occurred on October 1, 2023, in Seaside Heights, and sentencing is scheduled for August 9, 2024. The state is seeking a three-year sentence in New Jersey State Prison, as required by the No Early Release Act.

The case stems from an incident on September 18, 2023, when Seaside Heights police responded to a report of a fall victim near Central and Sumner Avenues. They discovered May with injuries from a laceration to his head next to his bicycle. Although May initially refused further medical treatment, his condition worsened after returning home, leading to his admission to Community Medical Center and later to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he died of his injuries on October 1.

Further investigation linked the injuries May sustained to an attack by Collins in which May fell and hit his head. This led to Collins’ arrest on a warrant issued on October 4, 2023. He then turned himself in to police and has been in custody at the Ocean County Jail since then.

Prosecutor Billhimer noted that “certain evidentiary issues” in the case led to a settlement below the usual sentence for manslaughter, a resolution supported by the victim’s family. He praised the family’s conciliatory nature and support of the settlement.
