State Police calls: DuBois man scammed out of $500

District police responded to the following incidents:

DuBois man defrauded of $500

According to a May 6 news release, PSP DuBois was notified of a theft in Falls Creek Borough, Jefferson County, on April 26.

According to police, through investigation it was determined that the victim was contacted by an unknown person who identified himself as a member of the Pennsylvania State Police.

According to police, the unknown person asked the victim to report to Walmart to make a $500.00 purchase using “Jpay.”

Please note that the Pennsylvania State Police will not contact you by telephone and ask you to purchase gift cards to pay fines, etc.

The victim is a 47-year-old DuBois man.

Retail theft in Young Township

According to a May 7 press release from PSP Punxsutawney, a retail theft occurred at Walmart on State Route 119 in Young Township, Jefferson County on Monday, April 22, at approximately 2:47 p.m.

According to police, a 33-year-old Altoona man is known to have left the store with various items totaling approximately $800.00 without paying.

Items stolen included a Cricut 3 (valued at $379.00) and a Hart Pro 20V Impact Gun (valued at $89.00).

The vehicle involved is a BMW built in 2002.

This investigation continues.
