Police investigate reported sexual assault in Cambridge – Boston News, Weather, Sports

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (WHDH) – According to the Cambridge Police Department, police are investigating a sexual assault reported Tuesday morning near Central Square in Cambridge.

The victim told police they were standing in the 200 block of Franklin Street around 12:20 a.m. talking to three other people. They could not remember what happened next, but reported waking up in a parking lot in Central Square after being sexually assaulted, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, police said.

Several women who lived nearby said the incident saddened them but did not necessarily surprise them.

“Sometimes I feel very safe. Sometimes I don’t feel safe at all because of all the homeless people drinking and screaming and hitting each other in front of the Supreme Liquors store, which I saw last week. No, that doesn’t make me feel safe,” said Betsy Burkhardt.

Barbara Omere said that sometimes at 1 or 2 a.m. she looks out the window and sees women walking alone.

“I asked myself, ‘Why would she be out here walking alone at this early hour of the morning?'” Omere said.

Cambridge Police are asking anyone with information to contact Criminal Investigation Division anonymously at 617-349-9151 or online at cambridgepolice.org/TIPS.
