Accident on June 4th claims a life | Around the city

According to Patrolman Eric Salles of the Port Lavaca Police Department (PLPD), a collision between a car and a motorcycle near 1928 W. Main St. in Port Lavaca left one person dead.

Police responded to the crash on Tuesday, June 4, at approximately 9:45 p.m. Neither the driver nor the car’s two juvenile passengers sustained any injuries. However, the motorcyclist, who was found in the Casa Jalisco parking lot, was taken to Memorial Medical Center after the crash but did not survive the accident, Salles reported.

“The passenger vehicle stopped at a stop sign on Warehouse Road and attempted to turn left onto Main Street. The motorcycle was traveling westbound on Main Street. The motorcycle struck the left front of the vehicle,” Salles said. “The driver and passengers of the car were not injured. However, the driver of the motorcycle did not survive the accident. We are unable to release any names at this time and are working with the Texas Department of Public Safety to recreate the accident scene and gather more information,” Salles said. “I can share that the accident did indeed occur in the middle of the intersection and the car was not stationary. There were contributing factors for each vehicle.” In addition to the PLPD, the Port Lavaca Fire Department, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and Calhoun County EMS responded to the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
