No suspension for Draisaitl due to Oilers superstar’s attack on Barkov

The sound you hear from Edmonton Oilers fans this afternoon is a sigh of relief because Leon Draisaitl has avoided suspension.

The NHL has announced that Oilers forward Sam Carrick has been penalized for an underbelt hit, the only additional penalty assessed following Monday night’s game, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Draisaitl will not miss a game for his blow to the head of Aleksander Barkov in Game 2 that sent the Florida Panthers’ star center to the locker room. Many speculated that Draisaitl would likely be suspended if Barkov had to miss games. Perhaps today’s decision is an indication that Barkov will indeed play in Game 3.

The series now heads to Edmonton, where the Panthers are comfortably ahead 2-0. The Oilers will be desperate to win on Thursday.
