Cleveland City Hall to reopen Wednesday after cyber incident

Cleveland City Hall will reopen to the public at 11 a.m. Wednesday after the city government headquarters was closed for two days due to a “cyber incident.”

Mayor Justin Bibb’s office did not provide any new information on the incident in a brief press release Tuesday afternoon. Cleveland’s branch offices in the Erieview complex will also open Wednesday.

“We are committed to providing ongoing updates as they become available,” the press release said. “We will not release any details that could jeopardize the ongoing investigation into this incident.”

Cleveland authorities first noticed “irregularities” in the city’s computer systems on Saturday, IT Commissioner Kimberly Roy Wilson said this week. In response, the city shut down internal software platforms and systems and closed City Hall on Monday and Tuesday. The city also closed its offices in Erieview.

According to City Hall, emergency services and airports are still operating. Officials confirmed that the city temporarily shut down the computerized emergency call system on Sunday as a precautionary measure, but has since resumed service.

Residents should continue to call 9-1-1 in emergencies, the city’s press release said. Police officers are responding to emergency calls and communicating with dispatch, Police Chief Dorothy Todd said Monday.
