Man arrested for kidnapping in Mesquite – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A man was arrested on aggravated child kidnapping charges in Mesquite after a child escaped and alerted the Dallas Fire Department.

According to police, Mesquite police were notified on June 6 of a “delayed sexual assault of a minor girl.”

According to police, the child had initially run away from home when a man in a red minivan approached the girl in the area of Gross Road and Ridgeview Street and asked her if she wanted a ride home.

The child accepted the ride, but the suspect ignored instructions and continued driving into the Dallas city limits.

Meanwhile, the suspect attempted to inappropriately touch the child, which police said led to a brief struggle and caused the vehicle to come to a stop on I-20 in Dallas.

The suspect removed the child from the vehicle and the child fled on foot for some time before encountering Dallas firefighters at Fire Station #40. Dallas police responded first and subsequently notified Mesquite police.

Investigators were able to locate the suspects’ minivan on traffic surveillance cameras in the area where the child was abducted. A search of the area described by the child as having run away led investigators to locate the suspects’ minivan.

The suspect was identified as 53-year-old Doyle Tipton, a registered sex offender.

Tipton was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping.
