Man arrested for possession of more than ten fake IDs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Police arrested a man Monday for possession of more than 10 different fake identifications belonging to other people and other charges.

On June 10 at approximately 10:45 p.m., Wichita Falls Police officers investigated a call that a man was struggling with an ice cream machine in the parking lot of the P3 restaurant on Sheppard Access Road.

When officers arrived, they saw the suspect, 40-year-old Ashford Meeks, at the ATM. Meeks was about to place a bag next to the ATM before police arrested him.

According to court documents, Meeks was uncooperative during the arrest, attempted to walk past the officer and placed himself between him and the bag. The officer took the bag but had to repeatedly ask Meeks to step back while he examined it. Meeks eventually attempted unsuccessfully to snatch the bag from the officer, earning him a charge of obstruction of public duty.

Officers managed to take the bag from Meeks, but the suspect thrashed around violently until he and the officers were on the ground. Officers had to force his hands behind his back to handcuff him, which earned him another charge, this time for resisting arrest.

After placing Meeks in a patrol car, officers found 13 different personally identifying items in the bag belonging to nine different victims. These items, organized by victim, include:

  1. Ministry of Defense ID, two Dutch bank cards, a Dutch military ID, and a Ministry of Defense Alt Token commonly used to access military information – all from one victim.
  2. A Texas driver’s license
  3. A Visa debit card
  4. A Texas ID card
  5. A social security card
  6. An identification card from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice
  7. A Visa debit card
  8. A JcPenney credit card
  9. A Mexican passport

All 13 pieces of identifying information contained either the victims’ names and dates of birth, unique bank account numbers, or social security numbers.

Meeks was arrested for obstruction of public duty, resisting arrest/search/transportation, and fraudulent use or possession of 10 to 50 pieces of identification information. The latter charge is a second-degree felony.

He remains in the Wichita County Jail on $25,200 bail, including $1,700 for a trespassing charge unrelated to the crime.
