Vermont woman in prison for attempted murder and allegedly attacked cellmate

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A woman behind bars for attempted murder faces new charges after authorities say she attacked her cellmate.

According to Vermont State Police, it happened just before 5 a.m. on May 29 at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington.

They claim Veronica Lewis, 40, used a prison-provided tablet and a lock in a sock to attack her sleeping cellmate Yvonne Frederikson, 52.

According to police, Frederikson was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Lewis is now facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

She is already serving a prison sentence for attempted murder after shooting her shooting instructor in 2015.
