Gastonia mother of six shot dead in drive-by shooting

A mother of six was killed in a drive-by shooting on Monday evening.

Latasha Cureton, 39, was sleeping in a bedroom near the front of the house on Morgan Street in Gastonia where her mother, whose name wishes to remain anonymous, lives when she was shot around midnight.

According to Cureton’s mother, she and her eight grandchildren were up late at night watching movies together when they heard what sounded like fireworks.

Bullets whizzed through the living room and everyone fell to the ground, she said.

Keith Rice, a close family friend, said it was believed about 30 shots were fired at the house.
