Long Eaton man sentenced to 27 years in prison for child sex offences and rape

A Long Eaton man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for a series of child sex offences and rapes. Nigel Jackson, of William Street, was found guilty of 17 offences committed between 2003 and 2019.

The 57-year-old was arrested in February 2019 and denied all charges, including five counts of rape of a girl, one count of attempted rape of a girl and four counts of sexual touching of a girl. Other charges included three counts of rape of a woman, one count of sexual assault of a woman, two counts of assault by penetration of a girl and one count of sexual assault by penetration of a woman.

A lengthy investigation was carried out and DNA evidence contributed to Jackson’s conviction, finding him guilty on the 17 charges. Detective Sergeant Ryan McVeigh of Derbyshire Police, who investigated the case, said: ‘The victim was just 11 years old when the abuse began and it is difficult to even begin to understand the suffering Jackson inflicted on her.

“I would like to commend the victim for her courage in reporting what happened to her and for her co-operation throughout the investigation and court process.” Detective Sergeant McVeigh added: “No one should ever have to go through this and I hope that this trial and the sentence Jackson has received will help the victim to come to terms with what happened to her.”

“As this case demonstrates, we take all reports of non-recent sexual offenses seriously and strive to ensure that the victim’s wishes and needs are the top priority. All allegations are thoroughly investigated.”
