Prescott police officer shoots suspect during ‘altercation,’ police say

According to a Prescott Police report, the incident occurred on Saturday, June 8.

PRESCOTT, Arizona – A man is dead after being shot by a Prescott police officer during an “altercation” over the weekend, Prescott police officials said.

According to initial reports, officers were called to a home near Rosser Street and Willow Creek Road around 7 p.m. Saturday to locate a suspect from a previous investigation.

Officers found the man outside and “an altercation ensued during which the officer used deadly force,” the department said. Police did not provide information on the nature of the altercation or whether the man in question was carrying a weapon.

First responders treated the man at the scene and he was flown to a Phoenix-area hospital, where he later died. His identity has not yet been released.

In accordance with department standard practice, the investigation will be conducted by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The police did not provide any further information about the officer involved or the investigations in which the man was previously involved.

Individuals providing information leading to an arrest or indictment in the case may receive a reward of up to $1,000.
