YouTube star Ben Potter, who ran the channel “Comicstorian,” died in “unfortunate accident,” says his wife

YouTube star Ben Potter, who had over 3 million subscribers on his channel “Comicstorian” where he shared his opinions on the latest comic-inspired films, has died after a tragic accident, his wife announced.

Potter, 40, died in a “regrettable accident” on Saturday, his wife Nathalie Potter said on the channel’s X account, without revealing the nature of the accident.

Potter started the channel “Comicstorian” in 2014, where he released audio plays based on comics. Potter’s latest video was released on Friday, the day before his death, and reached almost 200,000 views.

“To many of you, he was a comic storyteller who told stories from many different mediums. To his loved ones, he was one of the best and most supportive people you could ask for. As a husband, son, brother, friend, or simply a stranger, Ben was loving and genuine,” wrote Nathalie Potter on X.

“He was someone who listened and made time for his loved ones. He did his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were OK. He was our rock and reassured his loved ones whenever they needed it,” she continued, adding, “He was my world.”

Nathalie Potter asked for privacy as the family grieves together over her loss.

“Right now my priority is to preserve everything he has built and I have no further plans,” she explained.

Nathalie said her husband’s YouTube channel was “one of his greatest achievements.”

“Ben has spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies. His love of engaging stories and well-written characters is what drew him to YouTube,” she said.

Nathalie said she and Potter’s team wanted to continue the channel in his honor, “by continuing to tell great stories about great people and keeping the memory of our own superhero alive.”

“We supported each other in everything we wanted to do and I have no plans to stop now,” she concluded.

The post was met with a flood of condolences and tributes for Potter.

“I’m so sorry for your loss. I spoke to Benny many times through gaming and his love of comics. Such a happy spirit,” wrote one X-user.

“This hurts a lot, Comicstorian was my introduction to the world of comics and hearing that Benny tragically passed away makes me so sad. I started watching his content in 2016 and still watch it to this day. I wish you and your friends the very best of recovery,” wrote another fan.

“Incredibly heartbreaking. Comicstorian was an absolutely incredible YouTuber who did so much pioneering work and got so many people reading comics. Devastating news. Rest in peace,” added another.
