The fire is just west of North Flynn Road.

At 8:15 a.m., the CHP reports that the fire is about a mile long and is being fought at several locations along that stretch.

Motorists should expect further closures and use an alternative route.

The fire broke out earlier in the day when the National Weather Service had issued a heat warning. Temperatures in the inland East Bay will reach 38 degrees on Tuesday. Temperatures in the Central Valley are expected to reach triple digits.

The first emergency call about the fire came in at 7:47 a.m. At 7:49 a.m. it was reported that “the mountain is burning,” and by 8:15 a.m. the fire had reached a length of 1.6 kilometers.

Several fires broke out in the immediate area last week, including the Corral Fire. Two Alameda County Fire Department firefighters were injured battling the flames.
