Caroline County man convicted of sexual abuse of minors

RIDGELY, Maryland – A Ridgely man has been sentenced to three decades in prison for sexually abusing a minor.

We were told the investigation began in May 2023 and was a joint effort between the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, Caroline County Social Services, Caroline County Child Protective Services Center and the Caroline County District Attorney’s Office.

As a result of the investigation, David Whetstone was arrested on August 14, 2023 on a variety of charges, including second-degree rape, sexual battery of a minor, sexual abuse of a minor, third- and fourth-degree sexual offenses, and second-degree assault.

Whetstone entered an Alford plea in February 2024 on one count of sexual abuse of a minor and was sentenced this week to the maximum sentence of 30 years behind bars. The judge also ordered him to register as a Level 3 sex offender and be under lifetime supervision, including ordering GPS monitoring, a lie detector test and a no-contact order with minor children.
