Kai Cenat pays heavy fine for rioting in New York, but does not have to stand trial

After Kai Cenat was charged with inciting a riot in August 2023, he paid $55,000 in restitution, posted an apology on his Snapchat and will not face trial.

In August 2023, a seemingly harmless PS5 giveaway by Twitch star Kai Cenat in New York City went wrong after a riot broke out.

The streamer was immediately arrested and charged with incitement to riot. After a short break from streaming, he expressed his disappointment to his fans.

On May 7, 2024, it was announced that Kai would not be prosecuted after paying a massive $55,000 fine and posting an apology on his Snapchat.

His $55,000 went to the Union Square Partnership, and friends Duke Dennis and Muktar Din were also asked to pay $1,049.50 each. The $57,000 in fines will be used to reimburse the city for costs incurred in repairing the damage caused by the riot.

Kai Cenat’s apology on Snapchat must remain on his account for 24 hours and the case against the influencer will be terminated upon completion of this period.

“When I promoted a PS5 raffle at Union Square Park, the way I advertised and promoted it unintentionally created a dangerous situation. The result was an unsafe situation for the people who live and work in the neighborhood, the first responders and my followers who attended the event,” the apology reads.

“I apologize for the disruption and damage to the community, park, vehicles and storefronts in the area.”

“I wanted to do something cool and fun for people and didn’t think it would turn into something that would harm the city and I should have thought more about the post before announcing it,” it said.

“The actions of some of those present were unacceptable. At no time is it OK to engage in physical behavior, destroy property or attempt to harm people in these situations.”

This news comes just days after the popular influencer surpassed 10 million followers on Twitch, making him the 10th most followed person on the platform.
