“House of Horrors”: Construction workers discover new secret dungeon in the Fritzl guesthouse

Nearly a decade after Josef Fritzl was imprisoned for keeping his daughter captive, construction workers made the horrifying discovery of a secret basement in the suspect’s house.

The case of the notorious Austrian rapist made headlines around the world after he locked his daughter Elisabeth in a basement, sexually abused her more than 3,000 times over a 24-year period and fathered seven children with her.

The secret basement was discovered when workers were surveying the guest house as part of a routine building inspection.

They found a staircase behind an improvised wall.

They also found some glass tiles in front of another wall.

It is unclear whether or not police will conduct further investigations, reports The Mirror.

According to local media, the house was never properly inspected by police, even after they learned of Fritzl’s crimes at his next property.

Fritzl ran the “Seestern” guesthouse in Unterach am Mondsee together with his wife Rosemarie before the couple moved to Amstetten in 1996.

There he kept his eldest daughter as a sex slave in a basement that also contained a kitchen and a bathroom.

His daughter had seven children without medical help.

Three were sent “upstairs” and led relatively normal lives.

It is believed that his wife had no idea about the situation and learned from the serial rapist that her daughter had run away to join a religious cult.

She was told that Elizabeth had dumped her newborn children on her doorstep.

One child died after Fritzi left him to die of breathing problems and the other three were not allowed to leave the basement.

When Fritzi’s eldest daughter Kerstin fell into a coma, he took her to the hospital, where doctors discovered that she was malnourished and had rotten teeth.

Elisabeth was given permission to leave the basement and visit Kerstin in the hospital, but was arrested and told the police about the shocking crimes her father had committed.

Fritzi is currently being held in a special facility for “mentally abnormal criminals” at Stein Prison in Austria.

Elisabeth, 51, has a new identity and lives in “Village X” near the house where she was held together with her remaining children.
