Three teenagers die in early morning shootings in Oakland

Authorities said Oakland police are investigating two separate shootings early Monday morning that left three juvenile victims dead.

Oakland police issued a news release Monday afternoon with information on the two shootings. Officers responded to reports of an unresponsive person in the 900 block of Filbert St. in West Oakland just before 1:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Arriving officers found a victim with at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics were called to assist and the victim was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives from OPD took over the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.

The second shooting was reported shortly after 2 a.m. in East Oakland in the 1300 block of 102nd Avenue following a ShotSpotter activation.

Arriving officers found an adult male victim from Antioch who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived on the scene to render aid and transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Oakland police learned of a second victim, a male juvenile from San Francisco, who was taken to an area hospital with at least one gunshot wound. Although the victim was treated by hospital staff, he was later pronounced dead. That investigation, too, has been taken over by OPD’s Homicide Unit.

None of the victims were identified pending notification of next of kin. Police later confirmed that two of the victims were juveniles, ages 16 and 17, and that the third victim was 18.
