The distressing and mysterious search for Jonathan Giorgianni

In a moving story of love, loss and the relentless search for truth, a mother’s quest to find her missing son, Jonathan “Gio” Giorgianni, unfolds in a complex web of unsettling encounters and exchanges.

Jonathan’s disappearance has left his family struggling with uncertainty and anguish since New Year’s Eve 2021.

Jonathan, who was 19 at the time, only returned shortly after a brief convalescence before expressing his desire to attend a New Year’s party with a girl he had met. To his mother’s surprise, Jonathan never returned home, deciding to stay with his new girlfriend. Despite his mother’s initial happiness at making friends after a difficult time with bipolar disorder, things changed when Jonathan stopped taking his medication.

His new girlfriend called his mother on January 6 to inform her that Jonathan had been arrested. The last phone call his family received from him was on January 13, when he told his sister he had to leave his girlfriend’s home due to a tense situation.

Jonathan’s last known whereabouts were on January 14, 2022, when he was spotted in the 8700 block of Broadway Street in Houston, near Hobby Airport. His mother, Crystal, remembers how their daily conversations abruptly stopped that fateful day when she didn’t hear from him. This marked the beginning of Crystal’s painful journey to find her son.

At the time of his disappearance, Jonathan had a temporary cell phone to replace the old one he had lost. The phone was supposed to be used for only 30 days while awaiting replacement. His family said it was unusual for him to be disconnected from them or miss family events, even when he was no longer taking bipolar medication.

After he disappeared, they learned he was abusing illegal drugs.

Crystal said Jonathan was doing well when he came home, but as soon as he stopped taking his medication, everything changed.

“I feel like when you don’t take the proper medications, everything can go wrong, I see it over and over again. Drawing on my experience in the health field, they all turn to self-medication. Most people you see on the street all have mental health issues, whether they first started using substances and then developed them, or vice versa. It goes both ways,” Crystal said, familiar because of her experience as a nurse.

“I was very worried when I found out Jonathan had stopped taking his medication because I started seeing him slip back into his old habits. But it’s very hard once they grow up. When he was little, I knew what to do. But as an adult, it’s very difficult. So the best I can do is just continue to encourage him to take it.

Crystal gained support from the community as time passed without any contact from her son. It now appears on a DPS digital billboard after she set up a billboard near Hobby Airport for a while. Crystal also advocates for her son at events like Missing in SE Texas Day, where she has passed out flyers with his information.

Crystal worries that her new girlfriend has taken advantage of Jonathan’s trust. Crystal said several people contacted her after Jonathan’s disappearance, telling stories of deception and exploitation that linked his girlfriend.

“They act like they are interested in you and they will pretend to want to be your girlfriend and in reality they are only interested in your money, your wallet, your shoes, everything you have on you and leave you. Several people contacted me and told me the same thing,” she explained. “This is what they do. They work and they lure the boy in and then they take your stuff and then they bring in their men and their men will dispose of the body. It seemed so weird to me when she called me that I thought, “This is crazy.”

Two and a half years after Jonathan disappeared, Crystal said she 100% believed that was what happened to him due to his vulnerability, drug use and mental health issues.

“I think he just fell into his girlfriend’s trap. What I find strange is that when I look at all the facts and details of what happened, it seems so unbelievable that this could have happened to my son because these are things you hear on TV in different neighborhoods,” Crystal said. “That’s not the life I lived, or my husband’s, or my family’s, or Jonathan’s. So it blows my mind that he let himself be caught in all that. But again, if you do drugs, that’s what you’re attracted to.

However, his whereabouts are unknown, leaving his family clinging to hope and seeking closure. Jonathan is described as 5′8″ and weighing 160 pounds, as his loved ones continue their tireless efforts to bring him home.

I wish even if they come forward anonymously and they have information, they don’t have to give their name, they can call Crimestoppers and just share what they know. I always say it could be your brother, your sister, your mother, your father or your daughter, or a member of your family. You would want to know what happened to your loved ones,” Crystal said. “It’s no fun living your life without knowing. At least help bring closure to our families. Put yourself in our place. How would you feel if this happened to you? They can come forward anonymously by calling Crimestoppers at 713-222-8477.

Crystal spoke about Jonathan’s love for his family and how he wouldn’t choose to be away from them for that long.

“He’s a big mama’s boy. He loves his sisters to death, especially his younger sister. He was ten years old when she was born. They just have a very, very special bond,” she shared. “We would go fishing and he would teach my youngest how to fish. They could spend 8 hours out there in the lake and he would bait everything and he would learn.

With each passing day, the search for Jonathan continues, fueled by a mother’s unwavering love and determination to find her missing son.
