IDF announces soldiers killed and wounded in Rafah, Gaza Strip

Maj. Tal Pshebilski Shaulov, 24, of Gedera, St. Sgt. Eitan Karlsbrun, 20, of Modi’in, Sgt. Yair Levin, 20, of Givat Harel and Sgt. Almog Shalom, 19, of Kibbutz Hamadia were killed Monday night in an incident in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip that resulted in a building collapse, the IDF announced Tuesday.

In the incident in which the four fighters were killed, another officer was seriously injured and five fighters were moderately injured.

The area of the incident is heavily saturated with terror pits and trapped houses

An investigation into the incident revealed that Givati soldiers had entered a three-story building in the Al-Bura neighborhood of Rafah city, which is considered an area rife with terrorist attacks, trapped houses and numerous weapons.

In a joint attack with the Nahal Brigade, the force threw an explosive charge into the building, designed to trigger the activation of explosive devices. After the charge was thrown, fighters entered the building, and only then did the explosion occur, causing the building to collapse and leading to the death and injury of six people.

At this point, it is still unclear why the explosive charges were not activated after the explosive charge was dropped.

All soldiers involved in the incident belonged to the Givati Brigade.

This is an evolving story.
