Showers and storms in the west are heading east toward the TV9 viewing area this evening, but they will take a while to get here. We should remain mostly dry until the leading edge of this activity reaches the western edge of the viewing area around midnight. These storms will continue to move eastward, pushing toward Mississippi between about 5:00 a.m

Severe weather outlook
Severe weather outlook(KCRG)

Widespread severe weather seems unlikely here in eastern Iowa, although some stronger storms could still occur. This includes heavier rainfall, some frequent lightning and possibly a stronger gust of wind.

The potential for an afternoon cleanup is also there on Tuesday, although the extent is still somewhat uncertain given the early round. These would be isolated at best, and many areas will see no further rain after tomorrow.

We won’t completely give up on the chance of rain this week, with occasional activity still possible over the next few days. The first comes Tuesday evening when a few showers or storms could develop and move through the area. Much of Wednesday may see a break, but new showers and storms could occur as early as midday and evening. This means an extensive low pressure area and associated frontal boundary is moving through the state.

Further showers and storms are possible on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

If things line up well, some of these storms could be a bit severe again Wednesday afternoon.

Starting Wednesday, we will find ourselves on the cooler side of this storm system. This will cause temperatures to drop somewhat, with highs in the low to mid 60s at best. There is still a chance of a few showers or even a storm on Thursday and Friday as minor unrest develops across the region, although the likelihood is low at this stage.
