SALISBURY – A man was arrested after police said an argument about infidelity in his relationship ended with him firing shots toward his ex-girlfriend’s home.

The incident began around 3:20 p.m. Saturday when an argument broke out outside a home on Dixon Lane over infidelity in a relationship between two women and a man, said Chief Deputy Jason Owens, a spokesman for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. At some point during the argument, one of the women reportedly walked into the home, grabbed a firearm and pointed it at the man, threatening him and the other woman.

The man then allegedly got into his car and grabbed his own gun. After the argument continued for several minutes, the man fired two or three shots into the woman’s home, Owens said. Two children were outside, either on the porch or in the yard, and near the area where the man shot.

Officers went to the area after the gunshots were heard and confiscated both firearms used in the altercation and placed them as evidence, Owens said. Officers arrested the man, identified as 33-year-old Johnny Ray Blackwelder Jr., for allegedly actually firing the gun.

Blackwelder was charged with assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon in the presence of a minor, and domestic violence. He was lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center and initially denied bail due to the domestic nature of the charges.
