Police: Group of dirt bike riders kills man in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood; 41 shots fired

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are searching for a group of dirt bike riders who shot and killed a man in the Kensington neighborhood.

It happened on Monday around 8 p.m. on the corner of Potter Street and Huntingdon Street.

Philadelphia Police Chief Scott Small said there were two suspects on each motorcycle. Video shows some of the gunmen dismounting and opening fire on the block.

“We know that at least 41 shots were fired from at least two semi-automatic weapons of different calibers. We found the cartridge cases on Potter Street, just a few meters from Huntingdon,” said Small.

A 55-year-old man sitting on the sidewalk was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital.

The victim was with eight other people, but fortunately no one else was injured.

“These other individuals were very fortunate to be in the location where the shooting occurred,” Small said, adding that people would normally gather in the area where the shooting occurred.

A description of the suspects is currently not available.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
