Michipicoten remains anchored in Thunder Bay, investigations ongoing

As of Monday, the Michipicoten remains anchored at the Keefer Terminal in Thunder Bay, Ontario, following an alarming Saturday when the vessel was reported to be taking on water.

Coast Guard members told WDIO that initial flooding occurred in a ballast tank and a void near the bow of the ship. There was no initial flooding in the Michipicoten’s living quarters or cargo hold.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. It was originally reported that the Michipicoten had struck a submerged object in Lake Superior.
