Man shot in west Macon, suspect arrested

They say the suspect initially refused to turn himself in, but surrendered to authorities after the SWAT team arrived at the home.

MACON, Georgia – A man was arrested in Macon on Monday after allegedly shooting a 59-year-old man near Napier Avenue, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

They say Larry Christopher Baker, 36, was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting. The sheriff’s office says the shooting happened Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. in the 900 block of Hillcrest Boulevard.

They say the victim is still in hospital and his condition is currently critical.

When Baker came to the attention of authorities as a suspect on Monday evening, they attempted to arrest him at a residence in the 3400 block of Shenandoah Drive. However, he refused to leave the house, the sheriff’s office said.

But after the sheriff’s SWAT team and gang unit prepared to execute a search warrant, Baker surrendered peacefully and was arrested, the release said. Authorities say they also found a gun in the apartment.

Now Baker is said to be charged with aggravated assault and is in custody at the Bibb County Jail.

The shooting remains under investigation. If you have any information, you can call the Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
